A Coupon, A Contest, and A Custom Chocolate Bar!

Custom Chocolate BarEver wanted to create your own chocolate bar? It’s the perfect Valentine’s gift for that special chocoholic in your life, not to mention great fun!

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, ChocCreate.com is offering our readers 20% off your very own custom chocolate bars! Just enter the discount coupon code “chocfacts” at checkout. Yum! (Coupon good through 2/28/11)

Custom chocolate bar companies let you choose your base chocolate (white, milk, or dark), and then add a whole slew of ingredients of your choosing. Toffee/banana/candied lilac bar, anyone? Er, okay, maybe not. But if you wanted one, you could create it online.

When we first found out about custom chocolate bar makers, we were really excited, because it was the first time we’d ever seen such a thing. Our hopes were quickly dashed, though, when we designed a chocolate bar and determined it was going to cost 10 bucks, plus another 6 bucks to ship it. $16 for one chocolate bar?! Uh, we’ll pass, thanks.

Since then, a couple other custom chocolate makers have jumped in to the competition, so it’s possible to get some yummy custom chocolate fun for under ten dollars.

We recently took a look at some of these custom chocolate bar makers and compared prices on a few simple creations.

Milk Chocolate with Peanuts and Sea Salt

$11.00 at chocrí

Dark Chocolate with Cinnamon and Cherries

Shipping and handling was about the same with all three companies, except that chocrí’s estimated arrival time was three and a half weeks! Both ChocCreate and Chocomize have a 5-7 day turnaround.

Since ChocCreate is offering a 20% discount (enter coupon code “chocfacts” at checkout through 2/28/11), we know where we’ll be placing our first order.

How do they taste? We’ll find out in our next episode… But for now, a contest!

  6. Mmm, so many choices!

Bonnie would like dark chocolate with apricots, figs, goji berries, and a big old American flag.

George says he doesn’t care as long as it doesn’t have nuts, so let’s try milk chocolate with butterscoth chips. He’s not very exciting.

  10. I think it would be fun to try:
    1) dark chocolate, coconut, sesame seeds, yogurt chips, and curry
You didn’t say if there was a limit on entries. If we can enter more than one, I’d also add:
    2) dark chocolate, sunflower seeds, and aleppo pepper
    3) dark chocolate, banana chips, pecans, peanut butter chips, and nutmeg
    4) milk chocolate, pretzels, and toffee bits
Too much fun–I better quit here.

  11. How’s this for original? Milk chocolate, chili powder, chipotle powder, crushed red pepper, and one pair of lips as decoration. (I’m from Texas.)

  12. First of all, what are yogurt chips? Are they just solidified yogurt, because to me that sounds disgusting. My ideal bar would be dark chocolate, toffee, sea salt, and gummy bears. (cuz you can never go wrong with gummy bears)
